Shari Stepnick, the mall's marketing director, said donations for former WSPK radio personality Collins Knighton are being taken at the mall's customer service center.
Knighton took a $2,000 cashier's check when he was fired Feb. 3 from his "Collins in the Morning" program at the Pulaski FM station in return for signing an agreement not to work for a year at any competing radio station within a 60-mile radius of WSPK.
When he landed a morning show job two weeks later at WRIQ, a Radford FM station, he returned the uncashed check. But WSPK manager Mike Gummer secured a temporary injunction in Circuit Court banning Knighton from any further broadcasting at WRIQ.
A trial on whether the agreement is enforceable is scheduled for April 13 in Pulaski County Circuit Court. Knighton, who says he needed the job to continue support payments for his two children in Atlanta, is filing a countersuit against WSPK for $50,000 to $75,000. - New River Valley bureau
