Mr. Bush has said that he will do "anything" to get re-elected, and since he has done that before, I believe him now. On the other hand, the Democrats realize that they now have their best opportunity in decades to win the White House, so they too will do anything to get elected.
Mr. Bush's highly touted growth package was declared dead on arrival when it arrived at the Congress, and he well knew that the Democratically controlled Congress will do nothing to help him get re-elected. Likewise, Mr. Bush will veto any measure passed by the Congress. So we have an impasse, and the American people are the victims.
Raw politics, and nothing else, will be the order of the day, and neither the Congress nor the president will care how much pain and suffering they inflict upon the people; just winning is the important thing.
If the Republicans keep the White House and the Democrats keep the Congress in November 1992, God help us, because no one and nothing else can.
The big question is, therefore, how long will the American people tolerate this shameful situation? PAUL TYREE GOODVIEW
