His excuse is that some young men killed another young man over a sheepskin coat. He doesn't mention that a liberal-inspired welfare state has annihilated families and degraded individuals, leading to a lack of conscience in these young men.
Seamans acknowledges they weren't worried about legal consequences, though he evades the logical reason for their boldness: leniency. Seamans also evades the facts on the percentage of all crime committed by repeat offenders, the ready availability on the black market of guns to these criminals, and their overall chances of doing any real time.
Neither Seamans nor the editorial staff nor, apparently, Mr. Rugaber understands a simple fact: that the Constitution is a document listing the rights of individuals - not granting them rights. The Constitution also contains the rules and limits of what the government is allowed by individuals to do. Seamans would use raw governmental force to completely disarm innocent people, and would have an omnipotent government grant occasional privileges to us lowly "troglodytes."
What kind of evil would possess anyone to hunger for such a degree of power and control? Are you sad that the "good old days" of unlimited government power in Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia are now only memories? Are you an aging, hate-filled radical leftist, trying to ruin America the way your types ruined Russia?
Whatever you are, there can be no compromise between us, ever. I stand for all the freedoms that I still have, and will fight, kill and die to preserve them, while you would usurp and destroy them, because you hate freedom.
What a tragedy for Southwest Virginia that its only major newspaper is run by enemies of freedom. Well, enemy, you have been warned. GARY GRIFFITH ROANOKE COUNTY
