CARTOON WAS DOUBLE DOSE OF SEXISM

OBVIOUSLY in response to the American Association of University Women finding that the contributions of girls and women are devalued in the classroom, Oliphant penned an editorial cartoon suggesting that women teachers devalue the contributions of boys, exemplified by the young Einstein. Your publishing this cartoon (Feb. 23) implies that you not only devalue the AAUW report but also agree that women teachers repress males.

I hope that you would re-evaluate this double dose of sexism. The distribution of wealth and power in our society clearly shows that women teachers' repressing boys is preposterous. All students need encouragement to reach their full potential, especially in Einstein's field. Continuing to waste minds in anybody is immoral and conterproductive. MURIEL LEDERMAN BLACKSBURG

Editor's note: This newspaper runs political cartoons, like nationally syndicated columns, that represent a wide variety of viewpoints. Publishing a cartoon does not signify we agree with it.
