VIRGINIA'S HOWARD BEST IN HIGHLANDS

Virginia High's Robbie Howard, who averaged 18 points a game, was named the Highlands' District boys' high school basketball player of the year.

The coach of the year is Virginia High's Mike Cartolaro.

Marion placed Eric Hungate and Eddie Boothe on the team.

The rest of the team includes Virginia's Mike Danser, Jason Stevens and Adrian Sensabaught; Abingdon's Tyrone Brown; John Battle's Collin Jones; Gate City's Jason Jones; and Lee's Todd Light. - Staff report
