Ruby Neff Umberger, age 77 of 175 East Ridge Road, Wytheville, Va., died Tuesday, March 3, 1992 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late John Jacob and Ether King Neff. She was a retired beautician and the widow of J. Norris "Skeeter" Umberger. She joined the Rebekah Lodge #57 in 1944 and has held the Office of Secretary since 1949. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and a member of the Elizabeth Circle. She was a member of the Big Walker Square Dance Club and a member of the Steplighters Dance Club. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Robert Atkinson of Mineral, Va.; three grandchildren, Kevin Bruce Atkinson of Norfolk; Mrs. Tracey (Crystal A.) Wallace of Richmond; Robin Wade Atkinson of Radford University; one great-granddaughter, Brittany Michelle Wallace of Richmond; two sisters and brother-in-law, Imogene and Peyton Archer of Wytheville; Grace Miller of Virginia Beach; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth K. Umberger, Toby R. Umberger, both of Wytheville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 1992 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Paul United Church with the Rev. Norman Wilhoit officiating. Interment will be in the East End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and the Rebekah Lodge #57 will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
