\ NAVY AIRMAN PHILLIP M. SHELL, son of Pleas H. and Shirley J. Shell of 519 Caldwell St., recently departed for a six-month deployment aboard the Norfolk-based aircraft carrier USS America, which will lead an eight-ship battle group during routine operations in the Mediterranean Sea.
Shell graduated from William Fleming High School in 1988.

Holland is a 1991 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.
\ GUNNERY SGT. ASHBY C. ROBERTSON, son of Ashby C. and Mary W. Robertson of 430 Huntington Blvd., recently reported for duty with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29, Marine Aircraft Group 29, Marine Corps Air Station New River, Jacksonville, N.C.
Robertson joined the Marine Corps in 1972.

\ AIRMAN 1ST CLASS EDWARD R. GIRARD, son of Robert E. Girard of 2122 Cambridge Drive, Daleville, and Jeanette Stockli of 2238 Beavers Lane, Vinton, has been promoted to his present rank while serving as an apprentice tactical aircraft maintenance specialist at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
