\ NAVY FIREMAN RECRUIT MARC D. KELLY, son of Robert C. and Patricia L. Kelly of 307 Deaner Drive, recently returned to Norfolk aboard the USS Shenandoah.
Kelly was deployed for seven months with the USS Forrestal battle group in the Mediterranean and Red seas, participating in Operation Desert Storm, the Kurdish relief effort and other operations.
Kelly is a 1989 graduate of Cave Spring High School.
\ NAVY SEAMAN APPRENTICE CHRISTOPHER G. WILLIAMS, son of Charles G. and Jessie S. Williams of Buchanan, recently returned to Norfolk aboard the USS Wasp after a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.
Williams is a 1989 graduate of James River High School.

\ WARRANT OFFICER PAUL C. DANIEL, son of Kermit E. and Helen L. Daniel of 3560 McFarland Road, was appointed to his present post after completing the rotary wing aviator course at Fort Rucker, in Daleville, Ala.
Daniel received the silver wings of an Army aviator upon completion of the course.
\ SPEC. GARY L. SMITH JR., son of Gary L. and Debby S. Smith of 1160 Vivian Ave., was promoted to his present rank while serving as a special electronic devices mechanic at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax.

\ SENIOR AIRMAN MICHAEL S. GOAD, son of Jimmy L. and Helen M. Goad of 122 Sycamore Ave., has re-enlisted in the Air Force for four years.
Goad, an air traffic control radar specialist at Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal, is a 1989 graduate of William Fleming High School.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS WILLIAM W. JONES, son of William W. Jones Sr. of 2904 Bradley St. N.E., recently returned to the United States aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Yorktown, based in Norfolk.
Jones participated in a seven-month deployment with the USS Forrestal battle group to the Mediterranean. The USS Yorktown also took part in several training exercises with the Bulgarian navy, the second U.S. naval ship to visit that country in 70 years.
Jones is a 1976 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ STAFF SGT. JESSIE LEE BELLFLOWERS, a 15-year Army veteran and native of Roanoke, has been picked as the Army Ordnance Center and School Instructor of the Month for January at Aberdeen Prooving Ground, Md.
Bellflowers, a graduate of William Byrd High School, is a wheel-vehicle repairer instructor assigned to Headquarters Company, 143rd Ordnance Battalion.
\ AS1 WARREN STUART PALMER, son of Dorothy H. Palmer of 1803 Woodlawn Ave., Salem, and the late Andrew G. Palmer, was named Sailor of the Year for 1991 at Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine.
Palmer spent the last year as a Support Equipment Division representative, reviewing all technical directives to ensure compliance with all support equipment maintenance and repair procedures.
Palmer, a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, entered the Navy in 1972.
