SALEM'S FIRST CHURCH OF GOD (Anderson, Ind.) is participating in a 50-day pre-Easter national program, "The Family God Wants Us To Be." The program, led by the Rev. Charles Briscoe, pastor, is promoted by the Chapel of the Air. It began Sunday and will continue through Easter on April 19. Through weekly intensive study of the principles of Scripture and family counseling, the event is intended to enrich family life and church relations. The church is at 2241 Mill Lane in Salem. \ HOLY WOMEN AND HOLY THOUGHT, a free lecture on some female mystics of the High Middle Ages, is scheduled March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Lucas Hall 206 of Roanoke College. It will be led by John G. Tuthill of Georgia Southern University, who will tell of Irish mystics, and Pamela S. Anderson of the Roanoke College faculty who will discuss the power of medieval women in a male world. Both speakers hold doctorates in subjects related to their talks.

\ ST. PAUL'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH in downtown Salem is holding four evening devotional events that offer opportunities for Lenten spiritual growth. "Sacred Stories," a video series starting Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and continuing for three more weeks, features devotional author Frederick Buechner. In addition, on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., a 20-minute Evening Prayer service will precede a 7:30 Prayer and Praise discussion group whose topics include Eucharist. The regular Thursday Communion at 5:15 p.m. will continue during Lent.

\ WORLD DAY OF PRAYER, an annual observance of Church Women United, is scheduled Friday. The Roanoke Valley unit of the ecumenical women's group will have its celebration at St. John's Episcopal Church, Elm Avenue at South Jefferson Street in downtown Roanoke. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Stewardship of the Earth will be the theme with Ellen Aiken of the Clean Valley Council speaking on "Recycling."

\ OUR LADY OF NAZARETH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2505 Electric Road S.W., is sponsoring a "Seeking God" adult spiritual growth series starting April 3 and covering two weekends. The intensive 30-hour program requires registration by March 16; call 774-0773.

\ A BENEFIT CONCERT to raise funds to combat homelessness is scheduled March 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, 2138 McVitty Road S.W. There is no charge for the program, but an offering will be taken for the Transitional Living Center operated by TAP.
