RELIGION BRIEFS

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER, an annual observance of Church Women United, is scheduled Friday. The Roanoke Valley unit of the ecumenical women's group will have its celebration at St. John's Episcopal Church, Elm Avenue at South Jefferson Street in downtown Roanoke. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Stewardship of the Earth will be the theme with Ellen Aiken of the Clean Valley Council speaking on "Recycling."

\ BELMONT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1005 Ninth St. S.E., has scheduled a program featuring Susan Lewis on March 15 at 7 p.m. The Roanoke County woman has been minister of music in three churches and has lived most recently in Hopewell. Her singing experience includes several appearances on Christian TV stations. She also has recorded gospel music.

\ THE KINGERYS, gospel musicians, will perform March 15 at 7 p.m. at Ninth Street Church of the Brethren. The program to be held at 1103 Ninth St. S.E. is free.

\ HOLY WOMEN AND HOLY THOUGHT, a free lecture on some female mystics of the High Middle Ages, is scheduled March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Lucas Hall 206 of Roanoke College. It will be led by John G. Tuthill of Georgia Southern University, who will tell of Irish mystics, and Pamela S. Anderson of the Roanoke College faculty who will discuss the power of medieval women in a male world. Both speakers hold doctorates in subjects related to their talks.
