SMOKERS BIG PART OF BOWLING BUSINESS

IN RESPONSE to a letter Jan. 24 about banning smoking in bowling centers:

I feel that there are not enough non-smokers in the valley to keep centers going from morning till night. At our lanes we have a system that when it gets too smoky or bowlers complain, we open vents to let fresh air in, trying to please smokers and non-smokers.

I spend eight hours or more a day in the center, plus two nights of bowling, and I see how it is. This has been going on for many years. It just seems that now, everyone is after the smokers.

Starting this summer, we are taking names of bowlers (non-smokers only) who wish to bowl in a smokeless league on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. MARY J. SMITH Viking Lanes ROANOKE
