DEBORAH L. DAVIDSON, daughter of Jean Fisher and James E. Funk of Roanoke, has been named national account manager to BellSouth for AT&T Business Communication Services.

Davidson is responsible for sales of long distance services to BellSouth Corp.

\ CINDY H. RAMSUER has been named outstanding member for 1991 by the Roanoke chapter of Professional Secretaries International.

Ramsuer is employed as administrative secretary to Houston L. Bell Jr., chief operating officer at Roanoke Memorial Hospitals.

She joined the Roanoke chapter in March 1981 and has served as president, first and second vice presidents, corresponding secretary and chairman of various committees.

\ THE SALON LTD., established in 1976, has moved from its downtown Roanoke location to the upper level of Towers Shopping Center.

\ DAVID MITCHELL of Roanoke has been named manager of the year for the 325 golf courses in the franchised system of Putt-Putt Golf Courses of America Inc.

Mitchell previously was honored as manager of the month for July.

\ ROSS and ELWOOD ELMORE of New Castle recently retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. The brothers had more than 86 years of combined service.

Ross Elmore joined VDOT in September 1994 as a laborer. At his retirement he was a dump truck and snow-removal truck operator with 47 years of service.

Elwood Elmore joined the department in May 1952 as a laborer and retired as transportation crew leader with 39 years of service.

\ MARY RUTH CARVER and ELOISE H. EARNEST, both of Salem, recently retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after a combined 68 years of service.

Carver retired as executive secretary to the district administrator with nearly 31 years of service. She joined the transportation department in 1960 as an hourly clerical employee in the right-of-way section.

Earnest, senior secretary in the assistant district engineers' office, joined the department in 1950 as a clerk-stenographer. During her 37-year career, she also worked in the shop, personnel and materials offices.

\ HENRY L. HOWARD of Leawood Circle Southwest has retired as chief construction engineer for the Salem District of the Virginia Department of Transportation after nearly 43 years. He was responsible for all highway and bridge construction and pre-construction activities for the district.

Howard joined the department in 1945 as a survey party rodman. During his tenure in the Salem District, he supervised the construction of Interstate 77 through Carroll County.

\ JEFF ROBERTS, formerly of Roanoke, has been named assistant director of development at the Valentine Museum in Richmond.

Roberts previously was director of the annual fund at James Madison University.

\ JANIE WEINER has retired as president of Towers Merchants Association after 18 years.

Weiner, manager of Fink's Jewelers at Towers for 25 years, will continue to serve on the board of the merchants' association.

\ MARTIN KEITH JR. of Cloverdale recently was honored by United Parcel Service for completing 25 years as a feeder driver.

\ SCOTT B. THOMPSON, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Branan Thompson of Roanoke, has been promoted to sales supervisor of the Harrisburg, Pa., district of the Tombstone Pizza division of Kraft General Foods Inc.

Thompson was recognized as the outstanding sales representative for the Northeastern states for 1991.

He is a 1986 graduate of Cave Spring High School and a 1990 graduate of the Claiborne Robbins School of Business at the University of Richmond.

\ DALE E. WILLIAMS of Vinton has qualified for the Leader's Club of the American United Life Insurance Co. Williams has been an agent for G.W. Williams & Co. Inc. since 1988.

\ ELSIE BARR, president of Blue Ridge Copiers, has been elected Woman of the Year by the Roanoke Valley Charter of the American Business Women's Association. Barr is a charter member of the chapter.

\ RAYMOND DOWNES and BERNIE SANDERS, personal financial planners with IDS Financial Services Inc., have received the IDS Mercury Award for their production during the third quarter of last year.

\ WALTER JOSEPH BAUMOEL, Roanoke district manager for The Franklin Life Insurance Co. of Springfield, Ill., has been named to the 1991 Franklin Million Dollar Conference.

\ DAVID I. BOWER of Troutville has retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after more than 35 years. He joined the transportation department in 1956 as a skilled laborer and retired as transportation engineer in the traffic engineering section.

\ WILLIAM S. GORE of Buchanan retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after more than 28 years.

Gore joined the department in 1963 as a construction inspector and retired as district bridge superintendent.

\ GALA INDUSTRIES INC. in Eagle Rock has announced its 1991 Honor Roll of employees who were honored for outstanding contributions during the year.

Employees who received innovation awards were Danny Bryant, Glen Bryant, John Clark, Sam Hannah, Carroll Johnson, Edwin Kern, Gene King, Paul King, John Linkenhoker, Kelly Prewitt, Marty Rickman and Randy Riddle.

Receiving awards for excellence were Sharon Malone, Barbara Noel, Marty Rickman and Avery Webb.
