STORIES OF LIFE: Performance artists Paula Larke, Ann Kilkelly and Elise Witt will present original stories, song and dance about black women and white women approaching middle age this evening at 5:30 in Squires Studio Theatre at Virginia Tech.

Admission is free.

Larke, originally from North Carolina, has performed with the New York Shakespeare Festival. Kilkelly, a Tech associate professor of theater arts and coordinator of women's studies, is a specialist in vernacular dance, from the Irish clog to Motown choreography. Witt, a singer-guitarist born in Switzerland, lives in Atlanta and sings in a dozen or more languages.

SONGS AND LAFFS: "Li'l Abner," the famed musical based on Al Capp's comic strip, is playing at Showtimers in Roanoke tonight through Sunday, March 12-15 and 19-22 at their studio in McVitty Road.

Show time is 8 p.m. except on Sundays, when it's at 3.

The production is directed by Jeff Walker and Susan Brugh with music by Sharon Capps and choreography by Patsy Castellano.

STRINGS AND KEYS: Trapezoid, the acoustic band, and pianist Peter Kater will give a concert Saturday night at 8 at the Charlottesville Performing Arts Center.

It's sponsored by WVTF Public Radio and the Virginia Discovery Museum.

Trapezoid is known for its rich, folk-flavored singing and playing, Kater for his smooth handling of the keyboard.

COLLEGIANS: The Washington and Lee University Men's Glee Club and Women's Chorus will sing Tuesday night at the Lenfest Center on campus. Show time is 8.

THUMP-THUMP: The Harlem Globetrotters will trot out their comical routines at the Roanoke Civic Center on Tuesday night at 7:30. VIP tickets are $17.50. Others range from $9.50 to $12.50 for adults and from $7.50 to $10.50 for children age 12 and under.\

KID STUFF: "Sleeping Beauty," the enchanting fairy tale, will receive a whimsically musical treatment at the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center on Saturday morning at 10:30 and afternoon at 1:30.

Theatre IV Blue Ridge's Family Playhouse will be at the Walker Fine Arts Center of Martinsville's Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

BOY SOPRANOS: They'll be abundant at Roanoke College's Olin Theater on Sunday afternoon at 4. That's when the Phoenix Boys Choir, a collection of 38 youngsters ages 10 to 14, will sing.

The program will include music of Bach, Brahms and Bernstein, plus a choreographed Scott Joplin rag and a medley of Australian songs.

SHOW TIME: "The Shadow Box," a Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by Michael Cristofer, will be presented tonight and Saturday night and Thursday through March 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the New River Valley Mall.
