VIRGINIA WOULD BE ON FORTUNE 500

If Virginia were a corporation, it would rank 50th in the Fortune 500, a study by Duke University shows.

The state would rank ahead of such companies as Caterpillar Inc. and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. The comparison is based on Census Bureau data, sales figures for the Fortune 500 companies and general revenues for the states.

Virginia ranked 50th on the combined list and 12th on the state list based on its general revenues of $11.6 billion.

California leads the list with $69.2 billion in general revenues, putting it fourth on the Fortune 500, the study shows. - Associated Press
