KOREAN WAR VETS BITTER OVER DELAY

I APPRECIATE the Nov. 29 commentary, "Those who fell in Korean War are forgotten," by Louise Padgett of Salem. Construction of the Korean War Memorial in Washington, D.C., has been on hold for at least two years due to a design problem.

I was sent to Korea in July 1950, one month after the war began. I was a rifleman in the 7th Cavalry, 2nd Battalion, E Co. Casualties were enormous, due to the severity of the battles: 54,246 died from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953.

I was totally elated with the Vietnam Memorial honoring the 58,151 who died from Aug. 4, 1964, to Jan. 27, 1973, and those who served. I hope that a memorial will be forthcoming for the Korean War veterans. Delay has made Korean War veterans bitter. The completed memorial would be a truly needed and effective catharsis. MARVIN C.
