The college became coeducational in 1925. Prior to that, a few local girls took classes, but none were graduated until it became officially coed. After that the out-of-town coeds lived in private homes until a faculty residence was converted into a dormitory.
Later, several faculty residences were razed and a coed dormitory was built. It was referred to as the skirt barn, as it was in the vicinity of the college barns.
I don't know just how many girls registered in 1929, as a number dropped out before graduating. However, nine of us graduated in 1933 - three in home economics, three in biology, two in business administration and one in chemistry. JULIA S. BALLENTINE ROANOKE
