"Lakutshon Ilanga: Music Is a Healer" on WVRU Tuesday at 8 p.m. features South African music. Part 9 of this 13-part series is titled "Multiracial Music From a Black Country." It looks at the ways music produced by blacks and whites has affected the battle against apartheid.

WVRU continues its broadcast of a 12-part series called "Thinking About Drinking," Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. The half-hour documentaries explore America's No. 1 substance-abuse problem. The sixth segment is titled "A Family Disease: The Effects on Children and Spouses." Betty Ford will discuss intervention.
WFNR will have a benefit gospel sing and auction March 20 at the Christiansburg National Guard Armory to help disc jockey Dandy Don's family through a recent loss. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Entertainment begins at 7 p.m. and includes performances by Wanda Gail, the Gospel Strings, Sounds of Harmony and the Christian Gentlemen.
\ NEWS PROGRAMS: WVRU's "Talk of the Town," 8 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Friday, features a report on the alcohol- and drug-free teen center Straight Street in Christiansburg. Interviews include a discussion with Bob Anderson, executive director of the center.
"Speakers Corner" airs on WVRU Monday at 1 p.m. with anchorman Roger Mudd, who this week interviews Patricia Graham of Harvard University's Spencer Foundation on "What America Has Expected of Its Schools Over the Past Century."
