HARMAN MINING TO CLOSE IN APRIL

Employees of Harman Mining Corp. have been notified that the company is planning to shut April 15, leaving 126 workers idle. The 56-year-old Buchanan County operation will cease operations, which include an underground mine and a preparation plant.

The unionized company employs 97 hourly and 29 salaried workers.

For the past year, Harman Mining's parent company - Sioux City, Iowa-based Inspiration Resources Corp. - has tried without success to sell the operation. - Associated Press
