PRISON GUARD SUES INMATE OVER BARRY ALLEGATION

A prison guard accused of arranging a sexual tryst for former Washington Mayor Marion Barry is suing the inmate who made the allegation.

Patrick Crowley, a guard at the Federal Correction Institution in Petersburg, is seeking $2.2 million from Floyd Archer Robertson III. Crowley filed the suit Thursday in Prince George County.

Robertson claimed late last year that Crowley arranged the visit of a woman who performed an oral sex act on Barry.

The suit contents that Robertson is guilty of libel and slander and intentionally inflicted emotional distress on Crowley.

Investigations were launched after the allegations were made. Barry later was transferred to a stricter penitentiary in Loretto, Pa.

An internal investigation and an investigation by the Bureau of Prisons cleared Crowley, but the damage has been done, said Nate Nelson, spokesman for the local union of the American Federation of Government Employees.

The union, which is helping pay for the suit, said allegations against a guard are not unusual but they are seldom made public.
