The airline will drop eight daily departures from the Roanoke Regional Airport as part of adjustments to its schedules for summer travel. Five of the lost fights go to Richmond.
Also to be eliminated are one commuter flight to Charlottesville and two commuter flights to Columbus, Ohio.
At the same time, the airline will add two daily commuter flights to Baltimore.
The changes are part of schedules that will shift USAir's focus from its hub at Charlotte, N.C., to Pittsburgh. Beginning in May, USAir said it plans to add 23 daily departures to its service at Greater Pittsburgh International Airport.
Mark Courtney, marketing director for Roanoke Regional Airport, said he was frustrated to learn of the cuts because USAir had not informed airport management about them in advance. He said the staff will move quickly to find replacement service for the lost Richmond flights.
