VIRGINIA WESTERN FALLS IN SEMIFINALS

Gus Ward scored 31 points and Mervin Dandridge had 25 in leading Northern Virginia Community College-Alexandria to a 108-100 victory over Virginia Western in the semifinals of the Community College State Tournament at Woodbridge High School.

Chris Stephenson's 20 points and John Smith's 19 led Virginia Western. Keith Tinnell had 16 points, and Doug Hylton added 11. Stephenson had four 3-point goals.

Virginia Western (6-8 overall, 5-2 against community colleges) will play in today's consolation game against the loser of Saturday night's other semifinal between Southwest Virginia and Northern Virginia-Woodbridge. - Staff
