DICK ROBERS NOT `A MAN VINDICATED'

I WAS ASTONISHED by Daniel Howes' slanted "article" published on the front page Feb. 22. It belonged on the op-ed page.

The "smart highway" has not even been started yet, and the lead line is, "Dick Robers is a man vindicated." How can that be? If the "smart" highway destroys the Ellett Valley and causes more unplanned development in the area, is that a vindication?

The article says the Transportation Board is calling Robers a visionary. That may be true, but his vision is the kind that led to the nightmare of the New River Valley Mall area. If that's a vision, I hope Robers doesn't have any more, or that at least if he does, he has been looking far away from the New River Valley. JUSTIN ASKINS RADFORD
