FIRST, CAST OUT BEAM IN OWN EYE

ON FEB. 25 you printed a humorous article about the misspelling on the cornerstone of the new Norfolk Southern building, where some unfortunate stonemason made one teensy-weensy mistake.

It gives one a beautiful warm feeling to think that the Roanoke Times & World-News is performing a vital public service by attempting to upgrade the standard of English spelling in the Roanoke Valley. Unfortunately, there were no fewer than four spelling errors in the article by Mark Morrison. Maybe you should cast out the beam in your own eye before you try to cast out the mote in the stonemason's eye! DAVID MENDS HUDDLESTON
