ELLER, FRANCES S. ABINGDON - Miss Frances Sanders Eller, a resident of
Litchfield Condominiums, died Saturday, March 7, 1992, in Johnston Memorial
Hospital. Miss Eller was a native of Chilhowie, Va., and had lived in Bristol,
Va., before moving to Abingdon in 1970. Miss Eller was educated at Stonewall
Jackson College, Abingdon, and the College of Music of Cincinnati. She did
graduate work at Juilliard School, University of Michigan, Syracuse
University, Harvard University and Aspen Music School. Miss Eller joined the
faculty at Virginia Intermont in 1947, and taught music there until 1970. She
was an honorary alumnae of V-I, and was a member of the President's Club. She
was involved in providing music scholarships for needy students and in
strengthening the library in the music area. For approximately thirteen years,
she was organist at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Bristol. She had been
active in church work as a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Abingdon
since 1970. Miss Eller was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Q. A. Eller of
Chilhowie. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Joseph A. Johnson, Abingdon; one
brother-in-law, Joseph A. Johnson, Abingdon; one nephew, Joseph A. (Jay)
Johnson, Jr., Abingdon; two great-nieces, Jennifer Johnson and Mary Catherine
Johnson, both of Abingdon; three great-nephews, Christopher Johnson, Dallas,
Texas; Jeffrey Johnson, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Joseph B. (Jay) Johnson,
Abingdon. Funeral Services for Miss Frances Sanders Eller will be conducted at
11:00 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas Episcopal Church with the Rev. Victor C.
Mansfield officiating. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Johnson, Joseph H. (Jay) Johnson, Edward B. Eller,
Dr. Gary Poulton, Warren Sanders and Dr. V. A. Motley, Jr. The family suggests
that expressions of sympathy may be in the form of contributions to a memorial
fund at St. Thomas Episcopal church, Post Office Box 744, Abingdon, Va. 24210.
