2 VMI WRESTLERS WIN CONFERENCE TITLES

Two VMI wrestlers won individual championships and the Keydets finished third in the team competition in the Southern Conference tournament at the Asheville Civic Center.

Brian Mason won the 126-pound title 11-1 over Alan Smith of The Citadel, and Charles Branch decisioned Sean Moistner of Tennessee-Chattanooga 6-4 for the 134-pound title. Branch was voted conference freshman of the year.

VMI's Steve Pitts lost the 142-pound championship 5-3 to Guy Harris of UTC, and Jeff Clark finished second at 158, losing 18-3 to UTC's Howard Langford.

In the consolation finals, VMI's Jeremy Ingram beat Dexter Johnson of The Citadel 4-2 at 142, and Keydets Shannon Lucas (118), Victor Ucciardi (177) and Eric Davenport (190) lost.
