PATROLWOMAN TESTIFIES AT CALIF. BEATING TRIAL

A highway patrolwoman who said she never saw Rodney King threaten police officers appeared to concede Monday that a videotape shows him moving toward an officer before he is beaten.

Melanie Singer made her comment after nearly three hours of pounding cross-examination in which the attorney for Laurence Powell sought to justify the officer's clubbing of King after a traffic stop.

"You never saw Mr. King rise up, turn and charge Officer Powell?" asked attorney Michael Stone.

"No, sir," replied Singer. "Only on the video."
