WAYS OF GETTING TO MEDICAL SERVICES

I READ WITH interest the letter by Dr. Gerald W. Roller on Feb. 25. I agree with the doctor that a clinic is not needed for the Northwest Roanoke area to have good medical care.

However, Dr. Roller says there is no doubt there are those in the area who are inconvenienced by not having a medical facility; "and there are other persons, the elderly and disadvantaged, without proper transportation who have difficulty obtaining health care." It appears the doctor, and perhaps others, are unaware of services that are available for those in the Roanoke Valley who need special assistance:

Valley Metro (Roanoke city) has regular bus service with wheelchair ramps for all passengers who can get to the bus stop.

Star (Roanoke city) provides services for handicapped passengers who can get to the curb; Cortran provides the same service for Roanoke County.

Full Circle Senior Services, a division of Catholic Charities, provides transportation services for anyone who, for any reason, cannot ride on the other services. It offers door-to-door service and includes those confined to wheelchairs. ROBERT WARD Coordinator Full Circle Senior Services ROANOKE
