ESKIMO PIE INVENTOR C.K. NELSON DIES

Christian K. Nelson, who invented the Eskimo Pie ice cream bar in 1921, has died in Laguna Hills, Calif.

Nelson, 98, died Sunday.

The bar was the first successful attempt to combine ice cream with a chocolate coating and it caught on quickly.

Nelson sold the company in 1924 to U.S. Foil Co., now Richmond-based Reynolds Metals Co.
