TECH GOLFERS FINISH NINTH IN TOURNAMENT

Led by Brian Sharp's even-par 72, Virginia Tech fired the third-low round Tuesday to claim ninth place in the Budget-University of Central Florida college golf tournament at Eastwood Golf Club.

New Mexico won the team title and Lobo Tim Herron captured the individual title in the 18-team tournament that included seven nationally ranked schools.

Sharp's 220 total was good for 10th in the individual standings, nine shots behind Herron.

The other Tech counters Tuesday included Roanoke natives Scott Rardin (73) and Lewis Conner (80) and transfer Clayton Friend (77). The Hokies' 901 team total was 45 shots better than last year's showing in the tournament. - Staff report
