WHY BE UPSET AT FLOWERS IN SCHOOL?

IN HER March 4 letter, "Love connection," Mavis Bailey was upset that Northside High School allowed their students to receive flowers and other gifts. Why be upset?

She stated that the youth of Japan and Europe would not be allowed to observe Valentine's Day in this fashion. This is the United States of America, not Japan or Europe! The way they choose to celebrate a holiday is their business.

She stated that the secretaries have more important things to do with their time. True, I am a secretary, but enjoy seeing someone receive flowers or a gift from a close friend. I am sure that they did not mind.

This holiday only happens once a year. Lighten up! Give youth a break! Things might have been done differently back in our times; so what? NESTA A. MITCHEM SALEM
