Lillian Lovell Conant, age 85, of Radford, passed away Monday, March 9, 1992, in Stuart, Fla. She was born December 1, 1906, in Putney, Vt. In the early 1930's, she began employment with the J. C. Penney Company and in 1938 was transferred to Amsterdam, N.Y., to become the first female Assistant Manager in the history of the company. In September 1942, she married Dr. Roger Conant in Amsterdam. There, she served in the Second Presbyterian Church of Amsterdam as Ruling Elder, Clerk of Session, taught and served as Superintendent of the Church School. For nine years, she served as a board member and as President of the Children's Home Assn. and of the Children's Aid Assn. She was an active member of the Amsterdam Symphony Assn. and a member of the Amsterdam Hospital Auxiliary where she was solely responsible for the inclusion of a chapel in their new hospital. She moved to Radford in December 1968 with her husband who had been appointed college physician. With her husband, she became a member of The Presbyterian Church of Radford. She was a member of the Women's Club of Radford and served as Vice President of the Faculty's Wives Assn. Survivers include her husband, Dr. Roger Conant, Radford; two sons, Roger H. Conant, Atlanta, Ga.; David A. Conant, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church in Radford with the Rev. George L. Ducker officiating. Interment will be private. Although flowers are welcome, the family suggests that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, Virginia Affiliate, Inc., 404 8th Street, N.E., Suite C, Charlottesville, Va. 22902. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
