Richmond-based Central Fidelity Banks Inc. has formed a wholly owned mortgage corporation to provide financing for residential properties. Central Fidelity previously handled mortgages directly through the bank. Bryant W. Baird Jr., former president of C&S/Sovran Mortgage Corp., will head the new subsidiary.
Service America Corp. has been awarded a contract to handle snack-food vending services at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Beginning March 15 the service will be provided from the company's Radford center.
Thor Inc., a Roanoke general contractor, has been awarded a contract with Washington and Lee University for completion of the Kappa Alpha fraternity house in Lexington. The $500,000 project is to be complete by July. VMDO Architects of Charlottesville is the architect.
