In Santa Ana, Calif., jurors who heard figure skater Katarina Witt testify she lived in fear of an obsessed fan convicted him of sending threatening and obscene mail to the two-time Olympic gold medalist.

Harry Veltman, 47, of Westminster, who acted as his own attorney, was convicted on four counts of sending obscene mail and two counts of sending threatening mail to the Altendorf, Germany, home of Witt, 26. Veltman faces a maximum prison term of 24 to 36 months when he is sentenced June 1 under federal guidelines.

\ Three Hampton (Va.) University basketball players have been charged in a sexual attack on a female student at the school, police said. Derrick Powell, 21, and Weldon Parham, 21, were charged with rape and abduction, Sgt. Karl Gunther said. Marvin Childs, 21, was charged with abduction and attempted sodomy, Gunther said. The alleged attack occurred in a dormitory.
