TRANSPORTATION HEARING IN SALEM

The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing March 24 to hear public comment on funding projects in various localities.

The meeting will be held in the department's Salem district office at 731 Harrison Ave., beginning at 10 a.m.

Funding for the Blacksburg/Roanoke link, called Alternate 6, and the U.S. 460 bypass, called Alternate 3A, will be addressed by Montgomery County officials. The Salem district includes the counties of Montgomery, Pulaski, Giles, Floyd, Patrick, Carroll, Craig, Franklin, Henry, Roanoke, Bedford and Botetourt.

Virginia Secretary of Transportation John Milliken will present an overview of the state's funding situation. Highway Commissioner Ray Pethtel and Steve Musselwhite, Salem district member of the Board of Transportation, also will be at the public meeting.
