FLOYD COUPLE CHARGED WITH EMBEZZLEMENT

A former member of the Floyd Jaycees and her husband are facing charges that they embezzled from the organization last September.

Freeda Carol Whelan, 30, and Thomas Henry Whelan, 36, were indicted last week by a Floyd County grand jury. Freeda Whelan now has a Ridgeway address. No address was available for Thomas Whelan. The two are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Floyd County Circuit Court.

Commonwealth's Attorney Gino Williams said authorities believe the Whelans did not return money raised from the sale of tickets for a Jaycees contest. Williams wouldn't give the exact amount of money but did say it was likely not much more than $200.
