UNCG RALLY SENDS TECH TO DEFEAT

North Carolina-Greensboro scored five runs in the seventh inning and rallied to defeat Virginia Tech 10-7 in the Hall of Fame college baseball tournament Friday at Georgia Southern.

Virginia Tech (12-2-1) had overcome a 5-3 deficit when Les Jennette hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, but the Spartans (9-5) came back in their half of the inning.

UNCG put together four hits and took advantage of an error by Tech second baseman David Dallas to score its runs. With one out, no runs in and runners at first and second, Dallas dropped a throw for a force play to put runners on second and third. A fly ball to the outfield by Joey DeAngelis, which would have been the third out, scored a run and set up a two-run, pinch-hit single by John Posey later in the inning.

Tech loaded the bases in the ninth with one out, but reliever Jeff Huffman caught the last two Hokies hitters looking at strike three.

DeAngelis also hit a grand slam to give UNCG a 5-2 lead in the second inning.

Jennette had another good day for the Hokies, with a homer, double and sacrifice fly for four RBI.

Tech plays the Spartans again today at 11 a.m. - Staff report
