TRIPLEHEADER STARTS 45TH YEAR AT MARTINSVILLE

The green flag falls on Martinsville Speedway's 45th anniversary season next Sunday with the running of the Miller Genuine Draft 500 tripleheader.

Three different NASCAR divisions - Busch Grand National, Modified and Late Model Stock Car - will chase $219,103 in prize money.

The 100-lap LMSC race opens the 500-lap card at noon. The 200-lap Busch Grand National feature and 200-lap Modified event will follow.

It will be the season opener for the LMSC and Modified divisions.

Action is scheduled to begin Thursday with first-round LMSC time trials. The top 20 spots in the field will be determined in qualifying runs beginning at 3 p.m.

First-round time trials for the Grand National and Modified cars are scheduled for Friday, beginning at 2 p.m.

The final 10 spots in each of the three starting fields will be established in six 25-lap qualifying races - two for each division - on Saturday. The first heat is set for 1 p.m.

All three defending champions - Jay Fogleman (LMSC), Ridgeway's Jimmy Hensley (GN) and Jeff Fuller (Modified) - will attempt to make it two straight on the .526-mile oval.

The GN feature will be televised live by The Nashville Network. The other two races will be taped for later showing on TNN.
