HIGHLANDERS SWEEP WINTHROP IN BASEBALL

Radford University racked up 18 runs and 22 hits Saturday to start Big South Conference baseball play with a doubleheader sweep of Winthrop.

In game one, the Highlanders scored seven times in the sixth inning and blasted Winthrop 11-1. Four Radford players had two hits each, and catcher John Gegg drove in three runs.

In game two, Alex Vaxmonsky and Phillip Harvey had two RBI each as Radford (10-3, 2-0) downed the Eagles (6-12, 0-2) 7-4. Staff report
