BURTON, CALVIN T. IRVINGTON - Dr. Calvin Thomas Burton, age 90, formerly of Roanoke, died on Monday, March 16, 1992 in Rappahannock Westminster Canterbury. He was born in Axton, Virginia and resided in Irvington. He was a physician - Opthalmology, retired after over 50 years of service. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, Roanoke; Raven Society member, elected as Most Outstanding Medical Alumni of the University of Va. for the year 1983, member of the Roanoke Country Club, Shenandoah Club, and Roanoke German Club, each for more than fifty years. Local, state, national and international Medical and Opthalmological Societies, charter member of Medical Alumni, Advisory committee of University of Va., board member and president of Medical Alumni Assoc., president of Virginia O & O Society. He attended Washington and Lee University and graduated from the University of Virginia Department of Medicine, M.D. He had special training in opthalomology in New York and the University of Virginia Hospital. Surviving are two daughters, Suzanne B. Sawyer, Charlotte, N.C.; Julia B. Healy, Gloucester, Va.; two sons, C. Thomas Burton Jr., Incline Village, Nev.; William Kirk Burton, Roanoke; three sisters, Annie Mae Haraway, Brentwood, Md.; Katie Lee Carpenter, Falls Church, Va.; Christine Davidson, Port Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, George W. Burton, Berryville, Va.; Ottway Burton, Asheboro, N.C.; Edward K. Burton, Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. March 18, 1992 in the First Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, Va. with Dr. Richard E. Miller officiating. Family will be at the residence of Mrs. Julia B. Healy, Gloucester, Va. The family suggests memorials be made to the University of Virginia Medical Alumni Foundation, C/O Univ. of Va., Charlottesville, Va. or a favorite charity. Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, Va. is in charge of arrangements.
