SALEM KNOCKS OFF PH IN BASEBALL OPENER

Tracy Butt had a three-run homer in his only at bat and Brad Wright had three-run triple in his only at bat as Salem whipped Patrick Henry 11-4 in both teams' season-opening baseball game Monday.

Daniel Johnson was 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Spartans. Corey Epperly struck out seven and allowed only four PH hits.

\ SOFTBALL: Northside came to Patrick Henry and routed the Patriots 11-3 in both teams' season opener. Shannon Yopp went 3-for-4, including a bases-loaded triple, and pitcher Andrea Herron scattered four hits as the Vikings got eight runs in the first two innings. - From staff reports
