AIR TIME PLENTIFUL FOR ACC

As viewers learned last year when CBS Sports started its exclusive hold on the NCAA Tournament, the network uses regional geography to decide who sees what.

So, viewers of WDBJ (Channel 7) in the Roanoke-Lynchburg market can expect to see primarily ACC teams in the first two rounds through the weekend.

WDBJ has 10 hours of coverage during Thursday's first-round games and 9 1/2 on Friday, beginning both days with noon-5 p.m. shows.

For second-round games, CBS will air nine hours Saturday, and seven hours Sunday, beginning at noon both days.

On Thursday through Saturday, viewers will see four games in their entirety, with three scheduled Sunday. CBS also will cut into coverage of other regional telecasts, and, if a game becomes a blowout, switch games in some cases.

While most stations begin their NCAA prime-time shows Thursday at 8 p.m., WDBJ will start CBS coverage a half-hour earlier to deliver the 7:40 tipoff between top-ranked Duke and Campbell.

North Carolina and West Virginia will play in the two Thursday afternoon regional games on WDBJ, with Indiana-Eastern Illinois wrapping up Thursday night's show.

The Friday games on WDBJ include appearances by Old Dominion, the only Virginia school in the field, and Wake Forest.

ESPN begins its National Invitation Tournament coverage with a tripleheader tonight, starting with Virginia-Villanova at 7:30. Pitt-Penn State and Minnesota-Washington State follow.

ESPN will not air any other first-round NIT games. The cable network will show a second-round game Monday night.
