FERRUM GOLFERS WIN BARTON INVITATIONAL

Ferrum's Stuart Smith, a former Cave Spring golfer, shot an 80 Tuesday for a two-day total of 162 and led the Panthers' golf team to the title in the Barton College Invitational.

Ferrum had a team score of 683 at the par-72 Wilson Country Club after an opening day with a wind chill of 21 degrees and high winds on Tuesday. Jay Browning was second for Ferrum with an 86-85-171. Lynchburg finished second at 695 in the 10-team competition. - Staff report
