CELLULAR PHONE USERS SURGED, INDUSTRY SAYS

The number of cellular telephones users jumped 43 percent in 1991 to a total 7.6 million subscribers by the end of the year, the industry announced Tuesday.

The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association said 2.3 million new subscribers during the 12 months made 1991 a record-breaking year. - Associated Press
