LYNCHBURG OFFICER FACES RAPE CHARGE

A Lynchburg policeman has been charged with the rape of a juvenile in Bedford County, Sheriff Carl Wells said Tuesday.

The officer, Steven Bradley Thompson, 22, was charged Friday, after an incident that Wells said occurred in February in the east end of the county. Thompson has been released on bond.

The sheriff would not release other details about the case, and Thompson's status with the Police Department could not be confirmed Tuesday. - Staff report
