AMERICA IS CIVILIANS TOO

FRANKLY, I am ashamed of our group's [Veterans of Foreign Wars] asking Congress to kill a good, future-oriented [rural-health] government project, just because we are veterans, and because some fellow Americans (like my wife and my brother) are civilians. America is civilians too!

A national health-care system must be found.

At Salem we got a new four-story hospital building, as big as Lewis-Gale, some say. Also, a grant of $5 million to try a new health plan, I hear, including some civilians in a government hospital.

A few loud letters made Congress afraid to vote for it. Shame on us!

I kiss a civilian every night! God bless civilians! GORDON ZIRKLE
