FLOYD SCHOOLS SEEK $8.78 MILLION BUDGET

The Floyd County School Board has proposed an $8.78 million budget for 1992-93. That's a 3.6 percent increase over the current $8.47 million in spending.

The proposal includes a two-step salary increase for all employees. The increases would vary between 3.5 percent and 5.9 percent, depending on where an individual is on the salary scale. This would put everyone back on the right step, Superintendent Omar Ross said. Last year, the school system did not give employees raises.

Most of the increases are in instructional categories. The board proposes spending just under $6.35 million on those items, an increase of more than $230,000.

Pupil transportation costs are projected to increase about $44,000 to more than $827,000. And operation and maintenance expenses are expected to go up by $24,000 to just more than $946,000.

The proposed budget requests nearly $140,000 more in county money, raising the local share to $2.52 million. It also assumes an increase in state funds of $300,000 to $5.65 million.

The board will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget Monday at 7 p.m. at the school administration building.
