BOARDS AGREE ON USES FOR FLOYD SCHOOL LOAN

Architectural plans appear to have won out over an auxiliary gym in the battle over what to do with money the Floyd County school system plans to borrow.

The county School Board and Board of Supervisors reached that consensus Tuesday night.

The school system has applied for $390,000 in Virginia Public School Authority bonds. Both boards agree the first $150,000 should be used, as planned, for site improvements at the county's four elementary schools and high school.

The remaining money to be borrowed, up to $240,000, apparently will go for plans for major renovation of the county schools, three of which were built during the Depression. Once those plans are complete, the county can apply for state Literary Loan funds to pay for the repair work.

The supervisors must modify their resolution by the end of the month to reflect this proposed change. The School Board did so at its meeting last week.

The two boards will meet again Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the School Board office. Details for the site improvements, the proposed renovations and ideas for creating a county middle school will be discussed.
