BRIEFLY . . .

American Airlines and its commuter affiliate airline, American Eagle, said Wednesday it will begin service between its Raleigh/Durham, N.C., hub and Greenbrier Valley Airport in Lewisburg, W.Va. The five round-trip flights per week will begin March 28.

Mobil Corp. said Wednesday it was scaling back its capital-spending plans for the next few years because of concerns about the future prospects for the economy in general and the oil industry in particular. The Fairfax, Va.-based company said it was budgeting about $1 billion less for future projects and new construction, but the 17 percent cut would not be felt for a couple of years.
