BURTON LEARNS HE BROKE STERNUM IN ATLANTA CRASH

Ernie Irvan wasn't the only driver injured in the Atlanta 300 for Grand National cars Saturday in that 12-car crash at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Ward Burton, of South Boston, Va., discovered Tuesday he had a fractured sternum after soreness from the accident didn't go away.

Burton said doctors told him the injury will take six or eight weeks to heal, but he plans to continue racing in the Grand National series wearing a chest cast for protection. Burton won his first career race in the series at Rockingham, N.C., on Feb. 29.
