MARTINSVILLE QUALIFYING TODAY

Weather permitting, NASCAR's Late Model Stock Car division will crank up its season today at Martinsville Speedway when practice and qualifying begin for Sunday's $219,000 Miller Genuine Draft 500 tripleheader.

The top 20 spots for the 100-lap LMSC portion of Sunday's card will be on the line in time trials beginning at 3 p.m. on the .526-mile oval.

Some 70 drivers, many of whom race at the area's weekly short tracks, will attempt to break Ronnie Thomas' LMSC track record of 89.426 mph.

The other two NASCAR divisions on hand - Busch Grand National and Modified - will commence qualifying on Friday at 2 p.m.

Sunday's 500-lap tripleheader takes the green flag at noon.

The 200-lap BGN race will be televised live by The Nashville Network. Air time is 1 p.m. - Staff report
